Dynamic Dylan is a kind-hearted kid with a mature view of things. Believe it or not, at age 4, he tells people that junk food is bad and reminds his Mom, time and time again, not to talk to strangers. It is this perspective that has helped him and his family face the biggest challenge of his young life. In late April, Dylan was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Soon after, it was discovered that the cancer had also spread throughout Dylan’s bones, which classified his cancer as Stage 4 and High Risk.
So far, with the help of his parents, Teresa and Roger, by his side, Dylan has endured many excruciatingly painful treatment sessions and exams. However, like the many hero action figures that surround him in his hospital room, Dylan is a fighter. He is undergoing six cycles of chemo-therapy, which should end in the next two months. The next round is expected to be much more aggressive and it may include radiation, surgery, stem cell transplants, and two more chemotherapy sessions that are meant to wipe out all of his red blood cells, white blood cells and platelet cells. It may last 6-8 months.
Despite the many challenges ahead, Dylan and his family are hopeful and are encouraged by the love and support from family, their church, friends, and the kindness of strangers. Both Teresa and Roger have exhausted their medical leave of absence at work and Teresa will likely have to stop working to become Dylan’s primary care provider as he begins this next phase. With mounting medical bills and higher medical insurance premiums, this is a difficult decision for the family. Please join them in this journey and follow “Dynamic Dylan” in his fight against cancer on Facebook. They are grateful for your prayers and support.
